The Extractive Industries sector in Africa continues to grow and present challenges for the public sector. AFROSAI-E’s annual Extractive Industries workshop is a vital platform for SAIs, industry experts and practitioners from a variety of stakeholders to share knowledge and expertise on the emerging issues that affect the extractives industries sector.

This year the Extractive Industries workshop will take place from 27 June to 1 July in Pretoria, South Africa. AFROSAI-E will implement the workshop in partnership with SAI Norway and the INTOSAI Working Group on Extractive Industries (WGEI). The theme for the workshop is: Role of SAIs to support governments in transitioning to sustainable, low carbon and equitable energy systems.

Renewable energy transition promises to deliver vast socio-economic benefits to countries across Africa, improving energy access, creating jobs, and boosting energy security. African countries have an opportunity to bypass fossil fuel technologies to a more sustainable, climate-friendly power strategies, aligned with the Paris Climate Accords and low-carbon growth. During the workshop we will focus on supplying participants with more information on this topic and there will be ample opportunity for dialogue and knowledge sharing.

Nominees should ideally be involved in the audit of extractive industries for the SAI to gain the most value from this workshop. SAIs are encouraged to consider equitable gender representation when nominating staff.
